Find Gaston County Booking Photos

Gaston County jail mugshots appear as booking photos on the official jail roster when a searchable booking profile includes them. A person trying to find Gaston County booking photos should use the county inmate inquiry first, then check the profile photo block, booking history, and public-record channels when a photo is not online. The roster is a custody and booking tool, so photo access depends on the record, the date range, public-record limits, and any sealing or expunction action.

Gaston County Jail Mugshots

Sheriff Chad Hawkins's Gaston County Sheriff's Office roster displays booking photos for searchable jail records. Search results include a Photo thumbnail column, and the inspected Inmate Summary profile displayed a BookingPhotos block with thumbnail photo links and date and time stamps. The public sample retained more than one booking photo from different bookings, which means the roster can show prior photos inside the current-year-plus-two-prior-years search scope.

The official source is the New World Systems Inmate Inquiry portal used by the sheriff's office. It is not a commercial mugshot site. It is also not a statewide photo archive. The same person may appear in the county jail roster, the state corrections locator, eCourts, BOP, ICE, or VINELink at different stages, but those tools do not all publish the same photo data.

The public profile image area is shown on the Gaston County inmate summary sample.

Find Gaston County Booking Photos

Use the Gaston County Inmate Inquiry roster before filing a request because the public photo may already be attached to the booking profile. The roster can be searched by name, Global Subject Number, booking number, date range, or housing facility. A current inmate may show a photo in the result grid and more photo detail after the full-name link is opened.

  1. Open the official Gaston County Inmate Inquiry page.
  2. Search by last name, then add first name, Global Subject Number, booking number, date range, or housing facility if needed.
  3. Review the Photo column in the search results.
  4. Click the full name to open the inmate summary profile.
  5. Check the BookingPhotos area for thumbnail links and photo date/time stamps.
  6. If the profile is missing or older than the roster window, use the county public-records request portal and identify the person, approximate booking date, booking number, or Global Subject Number.

For the broader booking record and roster fields, the custody search is covered on the Gaston County inmate records page. Photo questions should still be tied to a specific booking event because one person can have several bookings and several photo timestamps.

Gaston County Mugshot Fields

A booking photo rarely stands alone in the official roster. It appears with identifying and case-routing fields that help prevent confusing one person or booking with another. The sample profile showed a full name, Global Subject Number, date of birth, sex, race, height, weight, city/state/ZIP style address field, aliases field, booking history, bond tables, charge tables, and release fields when applicable.

Are Gaston County Mugshots Public?

North Carolina does not have one statewide rule that requires every sheriff to post mugshots online. Gaston County voluntarily publishes booking photos through the official roster for searchable bookings. Public-record access comes from several statutes read together. Booking photos made or kept by a public agency can often be requested, but access can be limited by a specific exemption, juvenile status, sealing order, expunction status, investigation concern, or public-safety reason.

Key Statutes:

N.C. Gen. Stat. 132-1 defines public records broadly, including photographs and electronic data made or received by public agencies in public business.

N.C. Gen. Stat. 15A-502 authorizes law-enforcement photographs and fingerprints after arrest or commitment for qualifying offenses.

N.C. Gen. Stat. 132-1.4 limits criminal investigation records but makes certain returned court records public unless sealed.

Public and Not Public

The practical rule is narrow: the public can see booking photos that Gaston County publishes on the roster, and the public may request other sheriff-held booking photos when no legal restriction applies. That does not mean every image must be online, every older image will be easy to retrieve, or every related law-enforcement image is public.

What is and isn't public: Roster photos are public when they appear on a searchable Gaston County booking profile. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, restricted, investigative, or safety-sensitive records may be withheld or routed through a formal custodian review.

The roster covers bookings from the current year and two prior years. Disappearance from that search window does not prove innocence, dismissal, expunction, or removal by the sheriff. It may only mean the booking is outside the online search range.

Request a Gaston County Mugshot

If a booking photo is not visible online, make the request specific. Use the Gaston County public records request portal for county or sheriff records not posted online, or contact the sheriff's office with enough identifiers for staff to locate the correct booking. A strong request names the person, approximate booking date, booking number if known, Global Subject Number if known, and the reason the roster photo could not be found.

Jail information is listed as 704-869-6868, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Sheriff's Office main number is 704-869-6800. After-hours supervisor routing is listed as 704-869-6869. Court case files, certified records, and expunction orders should go through the Clerk of Superior Court or Judicial Branch systems, not the jail information line.

Removal and Expunction Limits

A booking photo appearing on the official roster is tied to a public jail record. The research did not locate a simple Gaston County form that removes a roster mugshot on request. If a case is dismissed, sealed, or expunged, the public-record change normally starts with the court record after the arrest, then reaches the record custodian through a valid order or official notice. A private request alone may not change a sheriff record.

N.C. Gen. Stat. 15A-145.5 covers expunction for certain nonviolent misdemeanors and felonies after statutory waiting periods, but it is not the only expunction path and does not make every booking photo eligible for removal. A dismissal, acquittal, or expunction question should be checked against the court record after the arrest, the clerk's process, and any order entered in the case.

Do not use commercial pay-to-remove mugshot sites as an official source. The official channels are the roster, the sheriff or county public-records process, the clerk, court orders, and state or federal locators when custody moved outside the county jail.

State and Federal Photos

Gaston Correctional Center is a state prison in Gaston County, but it is not part of the county jail roster. People sentenced to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction should be searched through the NCDAC offender locator, which covers state prison offenders, probationers, and parolees and excludes county jail information. A state offender profile is a different record from a Gaston County jail booking photo.

No standalone BOP prison or ICE detention center was located in Gaston County. The county jail can still intersect with federal custody because the sheriff detention page notes a U.S. Marshals Service pretrial contract and a BOP work-release contract at the annex. Public federal locators are custody tools. The BOP locator does not operate as a public county-style mugshot gallery, and the ICE Online Detainee Locator searches detainee custody by A-number or biographical data, not booking photos.
